Halloween

So this morning I was getting ready for church and I was confused why most of my roommates were still sleeping. I knew it was Halloween last night and we all did stuff until late so I thought maybe they would just roll out of bed and go to church. So finally time for church came so I woke up one of my roommates, which is when I realized that church starts at 11am not 10am. I don't know how I was so confused. But now I have time to blog.

Halloween was so much fun. Last week I had a ward party so me and some friends were the spice girls. Can you guess which one I was?

Of course the spice girls had to take a picture with the Harry Potter Group

Then on the night of Halloween I was a boy scout...haha. I thought it was clever. And my friend Michelle was a pizza.

I was a pro at bobbing for apples. We actually got out a stop watch. 5 seconds flat, beat that.

And at the Halloween party I was at some friends wanted me to go trick or treating and I thought they were ridiculous but some how I got ropped into it. And surprisingly I got a lot of candy. No one even said we were too old.

I'm 20!

So Friday was my birthday as most of you know...Thanks for all the calls. I had an amazing day. The week leading up to my birthday I was not excited to get older, but Friday was like the best day of the year for me. There wasn't a single thing that went wrong. And my roommates decorated our apartment and the door at like 4am with signs, streamers and candy. So I guess it's not so bad being in your 20's. I took lots of pictures so that you guys can see how fun it was. So during the day I just relaxed a nd ate candy and hung out with friends and then in the evening I had a wedding reception to go to. This reception was in an awesome greenhouse packed with plants so of course me and my friend, Michelle, took pictures in the plants as if we were in a jungle. We were setting a bad example for the little kids, though, because they kept trying to hide there too.
Where am I?
Ok so later that night I had a dance party to celebrate the beginning of my twenties. It was so much fun. I cannot think of a better way to spend my birthday than dancing. Michelle made me my birthday cakes. They were chocolate with cream cheese frosting and those white flowers are marshmallows. This cake was delicious and it's adorable. (I also got a cheesecake from my aunt that was delicious.)
I got my hair cut and dyed on thursday, courtesy of my cousin Amanda. How does it look? At my party I wore a tiara and held a sceptor because I'm a princess. :)
I wanted to put this picture up because it's a cute picture of my brother, Jason, and me. I would also like to say that Jason has been such a nice brother here. I love that he lives just down the hall and we get along so well.
Here are a few people from the party. So much fun.
And of course what party would be complete without being thrown in the pool. That water was freezing and my jeans stuck to my skin like glue but boys will be boys. Overall, I had an amazing birthday because so many people really went out of their way to make it that way, so thanks to everyone.

LA Trip

So I finally got a battery for my camera. So here are the pictures from my LA Trip. This post is kinda long because there was so much fun stuff I did in LA.

I went to the beach with my family quite a bit while I was down there. This picture is of me with my niece Madeline, my nephew Ty, and Casey. In case you cant tell, Ty is hanging onto my leg for his life because a few minutes before this picture was taken, a wave crashed on us.

And we (Steph and Jen planned it) threw Adele a surprise My Little Pony Birthday Party. So I made her take a picture with the Birthday Tiara on. She looks like a Princess.

And of course we had fun with the pinata. There were like 15 people who hit it so I can't post all the pictures but here are a few. Steph went at it with a samurai sword.
We didn't have a bat and having little kids use the sword seemed kind of dangerous so we used the stick of a broom. Here is Elias hitting the pinata.
And here is Phillipi hitting the pinata and of course his clothes are as stylish as always.
Ali is putting her whole body into it.
And when the adults started hitting the pinata, we realized that it wasn't the best idea to use such a long stick. You can see in this picture that the stick is swinging very fast in the direction of Jen's prego belly. Thanks to my spider-like reflexes the stick didn't hit her belly but after that we tried to hold the stick in the middle.
ANd here is my gorgeous family, well most of them.

Back in Provo

So I am back from LA. I would post pictures of my trip but my camera is currently broken because a wave crashed on it. I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet, but I will post pictures as soon a I can.

Coming back to Utah means that summer is about to end and I am not ready for winter to come. The end of summer means two things. 1st off, school is about to start and 2nd, snow will come and freeze everything including my ears and nose. I am not looking forward to either of these because I am loving having my entire day free from homework cares and I love the warmth that summer brings. But school has to start sometime. I am just glad that I only have 2 more years left and I am done.

One more thing, My brother Jason has come to Utah too because he is also going to BYU. So I am pretty excited that he is here to party with me. And it's just nice to have more family living near me.

Bowling Queen

My new nickname is The Bowling Queen as of last Friday. I forgot to post this because last weekend was so packed with fun stuff. So my aunt Ramona is in Utah visiting and my cousin Lisa left me (I will get back to that in a minute). So we had a fun weekend, there is already a post about the Nickelcade, but on Friday we went to the bowling alley. I used my connections and got us lanes without having to wait (I work there so it wasn't very difficult). I am definitely not a fantastic bowler so I average about 110, which isn't horrible but it's not great.

I noticed when we arrived at the alley that, my cousin, Amanda's, husband Dennis had his own bowling ball so I assumed that he would get in the 200's. So we started bowling and at about the 5th frame I missed a spare, but Amanda comes up to me and tells me that at least I'm beating Dennis. This definitely pushed one of his buttons so naturally my only goal for the game was to beat Dennis. The final score was: 140-Melissa, 112-Dennis. And people say dreams don't come true...lol. It was so much fun spending time with my family.

Ok so my cousin, Lisa, left me. She graduated and got a job in Nor Cal so she thinks she needs to do ridiculous things like move on with her life and start a family. She should know that the universe revolves around me. But seriously, I am very proud of her she is so smart and she completed her accounting master's at BYU (which is definitely not easy). She is also such a good friend. I always talked to her about guy stuff so now that she's gone I'm gonna have to text her all my guy stories, which definitely isnt as good as telling them in person. I will really miss seeing her every week but I know that she is gonna love Nor Cal.

One more thing, I changed my major to actuarial sciences. I just loved stats when I took it so i guess I am taking a new career path. Figuring out what you want to do for the rest of your life is so difficult but hopefully I will stick with this one...lol

The Nickelcade

My cousins have been in town, so we decided to party O-town style . Well, as everyone knows, the most fun thing to do on a Saturday Night in Orem, UT is Disco Skating, but apparently you have to be at least 16 (lame). As my most fun cousin, Kat, isn't 16, we decide to blow off Classic Skating and rock it out at the Nickelcade.

Although my coolest and most favorite cousin Lisa blew me out of the water on DDR, I still had a blast. We used almost all our tickets to buy tons of those fruity tootsie rolls--I had forgotten how fantastic those are. They are addicting! When I left the Nickelcade, I had a huge handful. By the time I got to the house, I had nothing but wrappers and I had no idea why. We were all a little sugar buzzed. Here we are on our post-Frooties high:

If YOU ever find yourself in O-Town on a Saturday night and you love living out your gambling compulsions, DDRing like a fool, racing cars, and using tickets to buy legalized drug candies and slap bracelets, the NICKELCADE is the place to be.

Hiking the Y

So in case you guys don't know...i am a mom...lol...my calling in the ward is FHE-mom and this week we went on a hike. On the side of the mountain next to BYU is a huge Y and there is a hike up to it so we did it. I have never done the hike so I thought that it would just be like a leisurely stroll but unfortunately it wasn't. It is not a very long hike but it has so many switchbacks and it is pretty steep, so I was dying by the time i finished (I'm sure my family is all gonna thin that I'm being a whimp) It was still a pretty fun hike and it was definitely a good workout. I gotta get in shape to hike Mt Timpanogos (it is a 10-mile hike and I have heard that it is pretty hard) at the end of the summer.

Here are some pics. The first one is of my whole FHE group before the hike. It took some convincing but I got everyone to make a Y out of their arms.

This is at the bottom of the Y. The edge behind us was pretty steep but anyone that knows me well should be proud of how fearlessly I stood near the edge, probably because I knew that I had no brothers around to pretend to push me off...lol
This is the top of the Y. All that white stuff are the rocks that make up the Y. This picture doesn't show how steep the Y is but it took me forever to get up because I was afraid of tumbling down it. I just thought this would be a cool picture. This is at the top of the hike. It was so much fun. I love hiking (except for the 20 mesquito bites that I got). Having mountains like 20 minutes away is one of the few things that I love about provo.

In other news...I will go to LA in just one week. I can't wait to see my nieces and nephews. I miss them so much. I think I will be able to see all of them while I'm down there. I haven't seen my sister Jen's kids in over a year. They have gotten so old since I last saw them but I hope they still remember me. Just seven more days and then I will see my favorite little people in the world. I am also excited to see the rest of my family.

Personal Waterfall

So about 2 weeks ago when me and my roomie, J'neen, were cleaning our kitchen at 1am I heard a noise coming from our kitchen closet so I opened up the door and, to my surprise, I found our own personal waterfall coming out of the ceiling. Water was also pouring down from my bathroom ceiling too. So I called management while J'neen went upstairs and told the girls to turn off their water. The apartment manager finally came and turned off the water to the girls apartment that lives above us. The manager then informed us that it was toilet water that flooded our apartment. And I guess there was mold in the ceilings because blacks specks in the water that was covering our kitchen and bathroom floors. But finally, at 2:30am, we finished mopping up most of the water in the kitchen and my bathroom...lol. However, right next to the bathroom tile is carpet so our hallway carpet got soaked and stinky. So we ran the AC all night, opened up all of our windows and turned on our celing fans and somehow our apartment still smelled moldy in the morning...lol. We also found out that it flooded our apartment so bad that the apartment below us also got flooded. We were lucky, though, because we only had to clean up a bunch of water but the water must have hit the breaker box for the apartment below us because their power went out. But management sent cleaning guys to my apartment to clean my moldy carpet and everything was fixed before the end of the next day so it wasn't too bad. Below is a picture of the buckets and pots we put to catch the water and the nasty rag that we ended up just throwing away...lol. You can't tell in this picture but the buckets and pots all got filled up.

So here is a picture of my roomie, J'neen, and I. While our friend was trying on wedding dresses we got bored and decided to wear some veils...lol. I am such a dork but it works out because J'neen is a dork too :) It is nice to have a good roomie after I have had so many stressful ones...lol.

So I am pretty excited that school is finally over and summer has started. The weather is beautiful, I go swimming alot and my tan is pretty sweet, what more could I as for...lol. And I will find out if I was accepted into the accounting program by July 30th. I am getting more nervous as the date approaches.

Catching up on the month

Ok so somehow I have forgotten to put a hilarious video of my mom up. Ok so me and my sis, Lynette, were cracking each other's backs. My mom came running in from the other room and asked us to crack her back too. However, it was a missunderstanding because she meant that she wanted a massage. So lets just say she was surprised...lol

Ok and here is a picture of when I was at home in April (I know its kind of old). I was babysitting my nephew Phillipi and he wanted lunch but he wouldn't eat the sandwich I made him or crackers or even a quesadilla. So I offered him some honeycomb cereal which he then dipped in ranch (the ranch was on the plate from the quesadilla) and happily ate. He ate a full plate of honeycomb dipped in ranch. I thought it might be good so I tried it, but it was as disgusting as it sounds.

Ok so Memorial Day was a blast. I went to My aunt, Ozi, house for breakfast. It was the first real breakfast I have had in a long time. We had pancakes, sausage, english muffins and watermelon. It was delicious. We also played games in the yard witht he younger kids. Here is a picture of me and my uncle, Steve.
And me and my cousin, Lisa.I just thought this picture was funny because my cousins (who are all in their 30's) told the little kids they should go play soccer but next thing you know it was the two older brothers playing against each other, not really letting the kids play...lol.

This outfit was inspired by my sis, Adele. She had a prom-like skirt and wore it with flats and a T-shirt and it looked good. I had also had a skirt like that and wasn't sure how to wear it, so I copied her look. Thanks Adele.Ok so there are 3 days left and then I will be completely done with school for the summer (finals and everything). One thing that goes along with the end of school is papers and projects. Here is my final project for humanities. I took this painting (first pic) and recreated it into a modern sculpture (second pic). I would just like to say that, in my opinion, modern art is not art, but what do you think?

Accounting Application Status

Ok so i have been waitlisted. So i guess the accounting program has a waitlist and im not exactly sure what it is. But now I have to wait until July to find out if I will be accepted or not. So i have another two months of being anxious.

So I've still been busy with school. The summer terms go by fast and I am almost done with the term. Then I will get a break for two months before school starts up again. But I love the summer time. On thurs I went to a bonfire and that was fun until I got tacckled by some guy.

Here's what happened. I was talking to my friend Jason when, all of the sudden, I find myself on the floor in pain. This guy, who I didn't really know, tackled me to the ground as a joke. I think I might have hurt a muscle in my neck when my head snapped forward. My check was swollen and I was in bed for the next few days because my back/neck hurt. But I am feeling a lot better now. I don't know what would make a guy, who I barely know, think it was ok to tackle me when I didn't even expect it. Some people these days are ridiculous. Ok well thats all for now.

End of the semster

Ok so for one of my classes I created a webpage about me and here's the link (its pretty sweet so you might want to check it out and some of the pictures have links to other websites :D) http://webpub.byu.net/babymis/

I also got my grades for last semester so that means two things. First, I am officially a junior. Second, I submitted my application to the accounting program yesterday. I will know if I was accepted in 30-60 days. I will post it on here if I'm accepted or rejected. So please no one ask me about it for at least a month because it will probably make me more nervous. So that's basically it for now :)

Conference Weekend

Ok so two weekends ago, I went to a thing called Festival of Colors. A lot of students here go to the festival of Colors and basically everyone throws colored chalk at each other. It probably sounds like a weird thing to do but it was fun. However it was one of those things that was fun to do but I would never do again...lol. It was a fun social thing but chalk went up my nose and in my eyes and it felt like chalk went in my lungs. My friends all agreed that I got the most chalk on me. It kind of looks like I have a disease :) Oh and now my shirt (which was black) is now pink, yellow and a little bit green.

So this weekend Casey and Lynette came to visit me (the fact that conference was here may have encouraged them to come too). So we stayed at my aunt Vernita's house and I had so much fun. I haven't seen them for like a year and it's been even longer for lynette. Of course I took on the roll of entertaining my cousin Julia's kids. They are so adorable. Below is a picture of them riding the horsey :) The older boy, Sterling, kept telling me that it was his turn to be the horsey, but I don't think he realized how big I was. I was able to get Casey, Lynette and me tickets to the last session of conference so we got all dressed up and took the train from Vernita's house to Salt Lake. It was the first time that I have ever been on a train so it was pretty exciting for me. The conference center is so huge. Casey said it looked like The Great and Spacious Building so after the session Casey insisted that we go to the top level. He stood at the edge of the balcony pretending to mock the people going into Temple Square. Get it? Yeah he thought he was pretty funny...haha. And last of all here is a picture of Vernita, Faith, Lynette and me. Now you can see where i get my beauty from ;)

New Hair...Once Again

Ok I was bored so I decided to dye my hair once again. I went back to Black and I like it. Here's a picture, what do you think. So I'm pretty sure that I couldn't be anymore clumsy. I would actually say that I make being clumsy an art. On Wednesday I hurt my knee. Here's what happened...I was running up the stairs of my apartment complex and I tripped and landed on my knee. It got so swollen and the next day it was bruised also. You can see in the picture where it's swollen (the picture actually doesn't show how swollen it is). It's swollen in a line because I landed right on the edge of the stair with the soft part of my knee and our stairs are metal on the edge. Lucky me. As of right now my knee only hurts slightly. And it's not as bruised, probably because I iced it so much.
By request of my mom, I am putting up the video of my Polar Bear Swim. It's actually kind of pathetic how slow I am swimming (although 30 degree water is a good excuse). As you can see, I started before everyone and half of them still swam faster than me...lol

The Hortin's

So every Sunday I go to my Aunt Ozi's house for dinner. This is a picture of me and Ozi. Let me first rave for a few minutes about what a good cook she is. I'm pretty sure that she hasn't made the same thing in the same month (we basically have something new every week) and her cooking is just amazing. Today we had chicken with some delicious sauce on it, twice baked potatoes, salad, asparagus and rolls. Anyone who knows me, knows that am not a vegetable person, but Ozi has converted me. I even ate 6 pieces of asparagus, I never thought that vegetables could taste good...lol. Next, let me say how delicious her rolls are. She makes rolls from scratch and they are so soft and yummy. Everytime I come home, my roomates are like, "did you bring some rolls back." I love having a good meal at least once in the week because as a college student, Ramen Noodles are a staple. Another thing that I love is being around family. It's so nice getting to know my cousins and their children. I have such a great family and I am so lucky that they are close by.

Here's a pic of Tanner (Han's son), Lisa (she picks me up and takes me to Ozi's house), and me.

Polar Bear Swim

Ok so I didn't do the smartest thing on Wednesday. For some reason I thought it would be fun to jump into 20 degree water. So every February my apartment complex and other apartment complexes in Provo (I'm sure they have activities like this in other places too) do something called the Polar Bear swim. It is where people jump into ice cold water and swim a lap. Genius Idea...I know. So I decide to follow the crowd. I was assuming that the water wouldn't be as cold because the weather had been "warming up" to the 40's lately (which is still freezing cold). So I go and sign up and when I jumped into that water it didn't feel terrible, probably because my body was in shock...lol. After about 2 seconds, though, it felt like death. It was the worst thing I have ever done. I could barely breathe the rest of the night and I was sick for like the next 2 days. And what was the reason for me doing this. Did i get my next month's utilities paid for or even a dinner. Nope. I got a T-shirt. I did all of this for a T-shirt that was too big on me cuz they ran out of smalls. At least now I can say that "I took the plunge."

To those of you who tie your shoes together

This weekend I was at work when I decided that I have a new biggest pet peeve. I work at a bowling alley called Fatcats. I like working there because I get a meal for free whenever I work and it's a pretty chill job, but I can't stand one thing. I don't like when people tie the bowling shoes together before they give them back to us. It would be fine if just one person did it and I didn't have a lot of shoes to put away but that is never the case. On Saturdays when Fatcats is always super busy, there are always a whole counter of shoes to put away and half of the pairs are always tied together (and last Saturday when I worked, I had to stay after my shift to put away shoes even though I had somewhere to go). I have to untie the shoes before I am able to put them away because they cannot fit correctly in the shoe slots while tied together. So having shoes tied together always doubles the time it takes to put away shoes. which means that the line of people waiting to be helped gets super long. If the line is super long that usually makes customers upset, and I don't like being yelled at by customers. In conclusion, please don't tie your shoes together. I would rather you don't tie your shoes at all than for you to tie your shoes together.

Valentines' Day

Ok so this week wasn't too interesting but i had fun on Valentines' Day. A bunch of guys planned a scavenger hunt for me and my roommates and even though my team lost, we still had lots of fun. One of the things on the list was "stuff your face with candy," so of course I volunteered to do that one. Here is a picture of me with a mouth full of Swedish Fish (I fit the whole bag in my mouth, and even though the bag doesn't look too big in the picture, there were a lot of Swedish Fish)

I would just like to inform everyone that I have fallen in love. During the scavenger hunt, we saw a lady walking this beauty. It is a Great Pyrenees. It is the most beautiful Dog I have ever seen. She shed all over me, but that's ok. I looked up the Great Pyrenees and they are "calm and courageous" and good with children, but it needs lots of space to run around so I guess I can't get it right now. But look how happy it is with me.

One more thing. when I came home from work yesterday i had a bunch of Valentines on my table. You're never too old to get candy and cards that say stuff like, "You light up my heart" or "BFFs"...ok so that's all for now.

Sunday, February 8, 2009

I know that I painted my apartment a while ago but I finally have a video of it...the video is pretty short but you can finally see what a pro at painting I am. And I don't know if you can see the edges but we came across a problem with edging...it was too hard to get the edges straight because the wall has dips and bumps in it and we aren't painters.

Ok so this week was pretty busy/stressful for me because I had my first big accounting test so I studied a lot. I was pretty convinced that I would fail but I got an A (only because the curve was set so low...lol). I haven't started on my accounting application but I probably should. My roommate (she isn't the one who shares a room with me...she is in the room next to me) is the girl sitting on the couch in the video...she is very sick, with like an ear infection and some virus or whatever.

This week I went to the Draper Temple Open House with the Relief Society in my ward. Draper is a city in the Salt Lake Valley and that temple is the 12th temple in Utah. It is so beautiful. The chandeliers looked like they were rainbow-colored and the cookies they served after were so delicious.

One last thing. The weather here has been so nice. It has been in the 40s. On Thursday I even went to school in just a sweater (instead of my huge jacket). I would like to think that it marks the end of winter here but that would just be wishful thinking...lol. Ok well thats all for now.

Christmas pictures and more

Ok i finally got my computer back so I can post pictures now...these pictures are from christmas break, there are a lot of them and they are pretty random.

This is a picture of my Albert with my moms coat on, he actually asked her if he can keep it. Thankfully she said no.
Here is me with my tiara on cuz im a princess (doing my monkey face)...i wore that tiara basically the whole time I was home.
One thing that I really miss at school is waffles. At my mom's house, she has this belgian waffle maker that makes the best waffles. But I don't have a waffle maker so the only time I get waffles is when I go to my mom's house. So on christmas morning I made waffles for everyone and they were delicious...not that anyone can mess up making waffles...lol
Now it was time to open presents...

Nick wore a turban...

Albert popped 5 collars...

and I got a ferrari...
Now ill talk about this week...as opposed to the weather by Jen, our weather has been beautiful. it hasn't snowed for like 2 weeks and the temperature even got up to 40 this weekend. Now this weather may not sound warm but it's better than the 12 degrees when I first came, and it's definitely better than last year when it snowed practically everyday. So I am enjoying this while it lasts.

So about 2 years ago, when I was going to Hawaii, I got a coconut ring...I basically wore it everyday, but then on Wednesday at work, my hand got smashed between two bowling balls and my ring snapped. My hand was only bruised but now my ring is in four different pieces. Sad day.
Here's a picture of my ring in pieces.
So yesterday me and my room mates spent the whole day painting...our living room went from being aquamarine (it was pretty hideous and loud) to a forest green and gray....it looks pretty good now. Ok that's all for now.
